This hybrid sorghum-sudangrass is a premium product
for the producer wanting to get the most from a grazing
or hay product. Because the hybrid is completely "Brown
midrib" it has significantly increased digestibility
of its stem and leaves. The Brown Midrib characteristic
when added to a sorghum-sudangrass hybrid increases
the proportions of cellulose and hemicellulose in
the stem while decreasing the more indigestible lignin
traction. Lignin content is decreased approximately
40-60% depending upon environmental conditions.
Stems feel and look softer and will appear more limber
with a distinct light brownish color in the midrib
of the leaves and cortex of the stems. Because of
the increased quality of this brown
midrib hybrid, growers will see increased gains above
those obtained from normal sorghum-sudangrass hybrids
when animals are fed equal quantities of material.
